Kombinat Koksochemiczny (Group of Coking Plants) will start a new battery on Tuesday in Radlin. Kombinat Koksochemiczny Zabrze (KKZ), which has been managed by Zdzisław Trzepizur for years, implements an ambitious investment programme. On Tuesday, 17 June, in Radlin near Wodzisław (Śląskie Province) it will put into operation a new coke oven battery for PLN 500 million. Its construction started in December 2006. Investment is implemented by Concord Radlin Consortium together with Zarmen and Ukrainian Koksochimremont.
KKZ manufactures 1.1 million tonnes of coke per year, mainly it is exported to Slovakia, Czech Republic and Austria. Its share in national market is 12%. The new battery is to manufacture about 750 thousand tonnes. Full capacity will be reached by the end of this year. The investment should be returned quickly because there is an increase in demand for steel in the world, and thereby for coke whose prices has increased by about 40% this year. The only problem of Polish plants is unstable deliveries of coking coal.
SLD and PiS government planned that KKZ will be taken over by Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW) Coal Company, which provides coke coal. The present government considers if it is not a better solution for plants to apply for stock exchange listing. — The effectiveness analyses are performed on connection of the coke plant with coal manufacturer, and also individual applying for GPW (Warsaw Stock Exchange) listing — says Joanna Schmid, Deputy Treasury Minister
