Zarmen won the tender for modernization of Koksownia Częstochowa Nowa. Now demolition work of old batteries and repair of the coke plant office building is in progress. The Donbas Ukrainian Industrial Union, that took over Huta Częstochowa (HC) Steelworks over tree years ago, bought also the coke plant. Finally, at the end of last year the decision on investment was taken. In January this year a new company i.e. Koksownia Częstochowa Nowa (KCN) was established that took over coke assets and 300 employees. The President of the company is Tadeusz Wenecki, former boss of the Silesia Financial Company (TFS). The same person who sold Częstochowa steelworks in behalf of TFS to the Ukrainian investors. The construction of the battery is to start in spring, and its completion is planned for the end of the next year. New battery is to manufacture about 0.8 million tonnes of coke per year, which is to be delivered mainly for foreign markets. Today the whole plant manufactures about 0.4 million tonnes of coke.
Now KCN has four coke oven batteries, but they are technologically outdated, low efficient and not environmentally friendly. Therefore, the vision of closing the plant was quite possible. Fortunately, there is a huge demand for coke, necessary for steel production, which is reflected in prices. That is why a new battery is to replace the old one. The estimate investment value is about PLN 100 million.
